West of Waynesville, Old Route 66 wanders away from the frontage of Interstate 44 for a while, over a couple of different alignments. It meets up with the Interstate once again, before crossing the Gasconade River near the town of Hazelgreen.
The Gasconade River Bridge was built in 1923…

… and you’ll get a great view of it, if you take a right on the first dirt road after you’ve crossed the bridge (westbound).

As the old road passes I-44 at exit 135, you’ll drive by the dirt-track I-44 Speedway. Just beyond, in a field next to the road, is this classic old sign. There is no old building nearby, and no way to tell what it used to point to. It’s just standing there, all alone.
