Yellowstone River: Le Hardy Rapids

Even though it looks like Yellowstone Lake turns into the Yellowstone River at Fishing Bridge, the lake doesn’t technically end until it reaches the Le Hardy Rapids (because this is the first dramatic drop in elevation from the lake).

You can see the rapids for yourself, with just a short walk from the parking area, along the main road.

This is just the first step in the Yellowstone River’s wild ride.  Beyond this point, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone begins to take shape.

Don’t these fuzzy worms mean that a rough winter is ahead?
