Llano, in the Texas Hill Country

0

After driving for a couple of hours through the Hill Country, Llano feels like a pretty big town.  The Llano River divides it into two parts, with newer, franchise businesses north of the bridge, and the historic heart of downtown just south of it.

As soon as you cross the bridge, you’ll be at the center of town.  A sign proudly proclaims that Llano is “The way Texas used to be.”  Park near the sign…

… and take a moment to walk around the stately Llano County Courthouse, completed in 1893, a year after fire destroyed the previous one.  Its clock tower underwent renovations in 2006, restoring it to its original appearance.

A stroll around the courthouse square will also give you a view of some of Llano’s other downtown businesses…

… including the LanTex Theater (still open for business)…

… and the local newspaper.
