Winter Hikes: 20: Lost Mine Trail, Big Bend National Park

0

You don’t want to visit Big Bend National Park in summertime.  Winter and Spring are perfect, however, and park visitors know it.  The biggest crowds of the year arrive around spring break.  There are numerous hikes in this vast desert wilderness, but one of the most popular, and most rewarding, is the Lost Mine Trail.  It’s a 4.8 mile round-trip, with a moderate elevation gain.  At the end, you’ll enjoy an incredible view of the desert.

Location

The Lost Mine Trail begins at the side of the road into the Chisos Basin, near Panther Pass (about 1.5 miles from the motel).
