Winter Hikes: 15: Piestewa (Squaw) Peak

0

Residents of Phoenix have some great hiking spots in their backyard. It’s too hot to hike mountains like Piestewa Peak in the summer, but wintertime is perfect. Expect a crowd of beautiful, physically-fit people to pass you as you huff and puff up the trail to a breathtaking viewpoint of Phoenix and the surrounding area. The hike is 1.2 miles one-way, with a 1,200-foot gain.

Location

The hike to the top of Piestewa Peak begins in Phoenix Mountain Park.  Take the Piestewa freeway (AZ 51) to the Glendale Avenue exit, then head east towards the mountain.  As you begin to curve around the mountain, the road turns into Lincoln Drive, and you’ll see the entrance to the park (Squaw Peak Drive).
