Winter Hikes: 14: Golden Throne, Capitol Reef

0

Snow is possible in Capitol Reef National Park (it gets an average of two inches per month in February and March), and I’ve also been there when it’s snow-free but bitterly cold.  So plan to bundle up when you hike the Golden Throne Trail.  This trail is about two miles each way, and gains 1,100 feet.  You won’t reach the top of the Golden Throne, but you will stand before it, beholding its glory.

Location

Capitol Reef National Park is located on Utah 24 near the town of Torrey.  The trailhead for the Golden Throne trail is located at the end of the Capitol Gorge Road — the dirt-road extension of Capitol Reef National Park’s “Scenic Drive”.
