As Day 4 came to a close, I found a great place to enjoy the setting sun. On the way back from Lake Louise, I noticed a wetland area with several small lakes at the side of Highway 1. These are known as the Vermilion Lakes, and if you take the Mount Norquay Road exit, turn right, then right again, you’ll end up on a narrow paved road that runs just below Highway 1, passing several of the lakes along the way.
I found the best view at the last lake, which is one of the largest of the lakes, and it’s close to the road. I would have had a perfect reflection of Mount Rundle and Sulphur Mountain, if it wasn’t for one duck that kept making waves.
Another of the lakes also provided a nice reflection. At any point along the road, you can pull off to the side, and walk down through the swampy marsh to the water.
On the drive back from the Vermilion Lakes, this guy was stopping traffic, while grazing at the side of the road.
