Downtown Flagstaff, Arizona
- This is a cool small town, in two ways: it's
loaded with Route 66 history, and thanks to its high
elevation, it stays a lot cooler up here than in
sweltering hot Phoenix. The Grand Canyon is
nearby, too! |

Williams, Arizona - Another good stop on the way
to the Grand Canyon, by road or by rail.
Williams has a main street that was built around
Route 66, and there are still plenty of restaurants,
shops, and neon signs to keep you entertained. |

 |
Oatman Ghost Town - A very old alignment of
Route 66 came through here. Once you twist and
turn for a while, you'll reach this wild west town,
complete with burros that roam the streets and beg
for snacks. |

Schnebly Hill Road - Sedona
- There's so much to do around Sedona, I've built a
special guide
to the area. But for a purely bone-jarring
experience, take a drive up rough Schnebly Hill
Road. Sunset (or later) is a great time to
experience the views. |

Chiricahua National Monument, Arizona
- It's a wonderland of rocks, in the
often-overlooked southeastern corner of Arizona.
Get ready to scramble over boulders and enjoy
incredible views of the desert. |
