This
trip begins and ends in Las Vegas, although you could just as easily
choose Phoenix as your starting and ending point.
The
2,838 mile drive first takes you to Death Valley, then down the
Owens Valley past the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Alabama Hills, to
a relic of old US 66, Amboy, California. Joshua Tree National
Park isn't far way.
Then, the route heads east, through Phoenix, over the Apache Trail,
and into the wild west town of Globe. Tucson is next, with
stops in Saguaro National Park and a drive up to the oasis of Mount
Lemmon.
From
Willcox you can visit Chiricahua National Monument, the Wonderland
of Rocks, then pass over what some say is the country's least
traveled federal highway, US 191, the Coronado Trail.
Hit
the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook for a night, then hike around the red
rock canyons of Sedona.
Drive into the Grand Canyon, over the Hoover Dam, and you've
completed one incredible desert road trip! |
