Sunset at Newfound Gap, Great Smoky Mountains National Park

0

I had the good fortune of being at Newfound Gap just before dark.  It’s an excellent place to watch the sun sink into the Smoky Mountains.

Newfound Gap is located along US Hwy. 441 in the middle of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  It sits atop the state line, dividing Tennessee and North Carolina.

At Newfound Gap, there’s a large parking area and viewpoint.  I took the first picture there, but decided to venture to the next (smaller) parking area, just around the next curve.  That’s where I found the best view of the setting sun.

Grab a good spot (one that’s not blocked by trees)…

… and watch as the sun sinks.  It will probably disappear behind clouds before it makes it to the horizon.

Even after sunset (or any time of day) this is a great place to view the Smoky Mountains, as they fall into line, one in front of the next.
