Sunset at Newfound Gap, Great Smoky Mountains National Park

I had the good fortune of being at Newfound Gap just before dark.  It’s an excellent place to watch the sun sink into the Smoky Mountains.

[tmt_info =””]Newfound Gap is located along US Hwy. 441 in the middle of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  It sits atop the state line, dividing Tennessee and North Carolina.[/tmt_info]

At Newfound Gap, there’s a large parking area and viewpoint.  I took the first picture there, but decided to venture to the next (smaller) parking area, just around the next curve.  That’s where I found the best view of the setting sun.

Grab a good spot (one that’s not blocked by trees)…

… and watch as the sun sinks.  It will probably disappear behind clouds before it makes it to the horizon.

Even after sunset (or any time of day) this is a great place to view the Smoky Mountains, as they fall into line, one in front of the next.
