Farmington, New Mexico at Night

0

By the time I rolled into Farmington, it was already dark.  So, I did the only thing one can do in such a situation: I did my sightseeing at night.

I had a little trouble finding my hotel.  I’m not quite sure why, but I just assumed I’d see it as I drove into town.  After driving to the far end of town, with no luck, I finally consulted a map.  It turns out, most of Farmington’s hotels (and many of its newer businesses) are lined up along US 64, which is just a few blocks downhill from downtown.

Farmington is located in northwestern New Mexico, along US 64, west of US 550.  If you’re arriving from Durango, Colorado, you’ll probably enter town on NM Rte. 516, which is also Farmington’s Main Street.

Farmington, like many other southwestern towns, has a lot of old businesses illuminated by neon.  So, with nothing better to do, I took a few pictures.

The Totah Movie Theater is on Main Street.  I’ve read that it’s been recently renovated.

“Totah” is the Navajo name for Farmington.

Some more great neon: Chef Bernie’s Cafeteria & Restaurant.

After walking around for a while in Farmington, I called it a night.
