There’s a chance that this trail could be snowy in winter. If it is, there’s plenty of hiking opportunities at the bottom of Zion Canyon. If a ranger tells you that the trail is clear, you’re in for a treat. Reaching Observation Point requires a grueling 4-mile (one way) hike uphill. At one point, you’ll be hiking along a narrow shelf cut into the side of the mountain. Hiking when icy could be dangerous, but hiking in the heat of summer can be exhausting, so winter or springtime may be your best bet. And as a bonus, you can drive your own car into Zion Canyon until mid-March. After that, you have to take a shuttle.
Location
Zion National Park is located east of St. George, Utah, on Utah Route 9. Take a shuttle, or drive yourself to the Weeping Rock bus stop. The trail begins here.
