Forsyth, Georgia

Forsyth, Georgia was my final small-town stop before committing to the long drive south on Interstate 75.  It’s a nice little town with a big town square…

… surrounding the Monroe County Courthouse.

Among the storefronts that surround the courthouse, you’ll find the Rose Theater.  It was restored in 2005, and is now home to The Backlot Players.

The Rose Theater building was constructed in 1904, and used as a grocery store until the 1940’s, when it was converted into a movie theater.  In the 70’s, somebody got the great idea to rip off the roof and create an open-air bar — so obviously, it needed a great deal of restoration!
